Lutheranism is a way of living - It is...

  • A way of teaching God’s ways.
  • A way of following God in our lives.

Lutherans are part of the Christian Church, professing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Lutherans emphasize God’s grace as it comes to each of us from a loving God. We are saved by the grace of God alone.

Grace Lutheran Church of Lily Lake was organized in 1894, by immigrant farmers who migrated to the United States from Sweden. The cornerstone was laid September 16, 1894, and the building was ready for dedication with a Thanksgiving Service that November. In 1894 the membership was 71.

Today, after passing our 105th anniversary, the membership is about 650. The original church was a quaint white wooden structure. In 1960, the little frame church was replaced by the present modern style brick church.

The worship life at Grace is varied and is open to trying different things. Grace participates in a community Thanksgiving Eve service planned by an ecumenical group of local churches. Christmas Eve includes a Barn Service (held in a barn) that is planned and led by our high school students and a Candlelight Communion Service.

Grace offers an abundance of ministries in which individuals may participate: Chancel Choir; an individualized confirmation program using mentors; Grace Roadrunners (a yearly trip); GUS (youth groups for junior and senior high students); Vacation Bible School; Mary, Martha and Rebecca Circles for women; and, special events such as the annual picnic, Octoberfest, potluck dinners and Easter breakfast. Members of Grace also support community programs such as Adopt-a-Highway, the Pottawatomie Habitat for Humanity Partnership, Grace and Truth Ladies Book Discussion, Prayer Shawl Ministry, and the Elburn Food Pantry.
