Construction Update
10/26/06
As you probably saw this morning, the blacktopping was completed this week. The parking areas will be seal coated and re-striped this coming week. It will be nice to get the front parking spaces marked because it’s been pretty confusing lately figuring out where to park. I hope we can get the concrete poured for the rear entry this week, but we don’t have a lot of control over that. The remainder of the lower level carpet was installed and we’re only waiting for the entry mats to be put in place.
A group of us spent quite a bit of time on Thursday going through every room and taking note of everything that isn’t right yet. We’ll be working through the list with Driessen over the next few weeks to get everything finished, but everything doesn’t have to be done prior to getting occupancy.
The sprinkler system control panel should be here by Monday. With installation and testing, it should be operational by the end of the week. I doubt that we will be lucky enough to get occupancy of the building by the weekend, but this is the last major obstacle. We’re working on finishing a number of other things to make it all complete, such as setting up dedicated phone lines for the fire alarm monitoring company and for the elevator emergency call phone. If the fire alarm system senses a fire it will call a 24-hour monitoring company. If someone get’s stuck in the elevator, they can press a button that will automatically call 911 to let them know that there is someone in there. It will have a pre-recorded message stating the location and address of the building, and help will be on its way. We will also have the ability here to manually open the elevator door from the outside to help someone. But don’t worry, that usually doesn’t happen more than once or twice a week. (That was a joke.)
In the back of the boiler room, there is an air compressor and tank. I think it was part of the old boiler thermostat system that was pneumatically controlled. We don’t need that pump anymore and it is just sitting there. If anyone wants to disconnect it and take it home, you are welcome to it.
